Top 2 Tuesday: Random Things

Top 2 random things about me?

1. I have a tattoo. I'm a pretty straight-laced person. A rule-follower. An over-achiever. And when my sister got her first tattoo I decided I wanted one too. I was in middle school or early high school when she got hers, and by my freshman year of college, I was old enough to get one & still wanted one. My roommate and one of our next door neighbors each wanted one, too, and we ended up getting our tattoos in the same place--near our left ankles. I still love my tattoo, 5 years later.
{from L to R: roommate's, mine, neighbor's}

2. I mentioned this on Saturday...I have an unnatural affinity for The Wizard of Oz. It's the first movie I remember watching and loving. It's the one my parents had to suffer through 87 million times because it's all I wanted to watch. When I was four or five, my parents, sister and I went to Texas to visit my grandparents. My mom thought it would be fun to take pictures of my sister and I in some of the wild flower fields, and I threw the temper tantrum to end all temper tantrums...My mom and I decided when I was about 12 that the reason I reacted that way was because I was probably scared of the poison poppies! My junior year of college I was the Rush Dinner Coordinator for my sorority, and naturally we had an Oz-themed dinner. All of the Oz memorablia we used was from my personal collection. And I was a little embarassed to see it all in one place! A lot of my stuff is in the form of Hallmark Christmas ornaments, so it doesn't stay out all year round...Here are some pictures from the dinner...
Each table had a different theme: Glinda, Emerald City, Yellow Brick Road, Wicked Witch of the West, Ruby Slippers, and Oz (general). I insisted that I They let me stand in front for the group picture since I was the Rush Dinner Chair.

Hope you enjoyed a glimpse into my randomness! Head over to Taylor's to link up!

Had to share this

Valerie at Next to Heaven posted this yesterday, and I immediately had to grab it and share it here, too.

I don't know if I've ever shared my love for The Wizard of Oz with you all...but trust me...It's a passion that runs deep and is practically as old as I am...and I love this this 8x10 print...

Baby Shower Weekend

This weekend my sister and brother-in-law are coming to town for a baby shower! Her very first shower was last weekend where she and my BIL live, but this weekend, it's a "home" shower with all of our crazy-loud family. We're known as the King women, and we LAUGH--loudly and all the same. It's always a good time when we get together! My mother-in-law will also join us this weekend, and I'm so glad she'll be there! (and that she's willing to spend another 2 hours with this group of women! I'm glad we didn't scare her off at the bridal shower last year!)

I've been working hard with my Cricut to try and make the shower super-cute and fun. My mom and one of my great-aunts are wonderful and awesome and are co-hosting the shower with me. I'll try and have lots of fun pictures for you next week!

Until then, enjoy this little sneak peak from the invitations!

Happy Weekend!

Welcome! And thank you!

I know it may not seem like many to some of you, but I'm up to 29 followers, and I know several of you have joined in the past week or so, so I wanted to reach out and say:
I am honored and flattered that you would want to join me here as babble on about life and silly things. It makes my heart smile to see when someone new has joined us, and when I get an email letting me know I've received a comment, I grin out loud. (and yes, that's a strange phrase, but it's true. try it sometime).

I also want to say to each of you, including the ones who have been here from the start:
...for being here and reading along. I've started blogs once or twice in the past, always to give them up within a few weeks...months at the most. But I know how excited I get to see when one of you has posted something new, and the possibility that maybe, just maybe, you get excited to see something I've posted...well, it makes me want to keep going with this little blog 'o mine. So...thank you.

And...tomorrow's Friday(!)

I'm pretty sure I'm going to love this...

The folks at Vera Bradley posted a sneak-peak at one of their new summer colors to their facebook page...in the form of a desktop background. I have few doubts that I will love this pattern...

Wishful Wednesday: Handbag!

Kelsey is speaking my language with Wishful Wednesday this week!

'I wish' .... I could afford this handbag without putting a dent in my pocketbook!

I love me some Vera Bradley, but if I could have any handbag, without the giant wallet dent...I'd be rocking this bag from Coach:

Yes, please!

Top 2 Tuesday & an award!

Click over to Taylor's to link up!

I think "Top two things you can't live without" is a great topic to jump in to Top 2 Tuesdays with! Now, I am approaching this topic with an obnoxiously first-world perspective. Clearly, I can live without these things, but they are fun things that improve my mood, if nothing else!

1. Gold Bond Ulitmate Healing Lotion (travel size)

I blogged about this way back in January, but I really can't say enough about this stuff! I have it with me in my purse at.all.times. I may not use it every day, but it's always there for me when I need it! If you're looking for a travel-sized lotion to keep in your bag, don't let the old lady stigma about Gold Bond keep you from trying this! (I get mine for $1 at Wal-Mart).

2. My MacBook and Adobe CS3.

Some days, being able to go home and play with some design stuff really does save my sanity. I have big dreams of working from home, designing all day long and meeting fun people along the way. I've only dabbled in graphic design thus far--working (for free) for people I know and love. I hope to one day really turn it into a business though. It would be even better if I could design full-time, whether for an existing business or myself. But, for now, I'll continue designing in my spare time, for my friends and myself!

In other news, Julie over at Brown Eyed Belle gave me an award! I love this one because we're also BFFs in real life!
I just have to tag Julie back! Also, I'd like to pass it along to these favorites:

Hopefully you don't mind to get this again if it's a repeat for you!

Help a girl out?

I've been using the same mascara for a long time now, and until recently I have LOVED it. I use CoverGirl's Exact Eyelights in Black Pearl, and it's been my favorite mascara I've ever used. Ever.
 {source}
I started wearing mascara daily in 1999, so for the past 11 years, I've tried a ton of different formulas. And really, this has absolutely been my favorite. (Don't try the waterproof, though, I hated that.)

But, now that I've been wearing this mascara daily for several months, it's starting to look dull. My lashes are clumping together like they usually don't, and I'm just unhappy with it. I think mascara should be treated like shampoo: you need to switch to a new formula every so often to keep your hair looking soft and healthy.

So, realizing that it's time to take a break from my beloved Exact Eyelights, I realized that I didn't want to try something new (excuse the pun) blindly. And who better to ask for advice than my lovely bloggy friends?!

So, what mascara would you recommend? Keep in mind I'm going for drug store mascara here--my cosmetic splurge is for Bare Minerals foundation and mineral veil, so I need to keep it inexpensive for my lashes. Also keep in mind that I rarely, if ever, leave the house without mascara. I consider it an essential. I like lengthening/volumizing/curling formulas, though really, as long as I can see my lashes after I've put it on, I'll be happy.

So, what should I try?

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

If money were no object, and if I actually thought I could pull off those tights, I'd totally be wearing this to celebrate today:

(Like I said, if money were no object...)

Head over to Polyvore and put together your own St. Patty's Day ensemble!

Wishful Wednesday: Lottery

This week I'm playing along with Kelsey at the Seattle Smith's for Wishful Wednesday!

This week's topic:

'I wish' .... I could win the lottery REAL soon, and I would hope to ________.

**The real question is would you
1.) quit your job/career
2.) continue working

My answer is easy: YES! If the jackpot were big enough (like the $200 million it was this weekend in Tennessee), I'd quit my job in a heartbeat. I enjoy my job, but I could think of about 200 million other things I'd do if I didn't need the paycheck...

Other ways we'd use the money:
  1. Pay off my student loans
  2. Start looking for/eventually buy a house
  3. Start a small business, mostly print design, with some photography thrown in
  4. Some new music toys for Carter
  5. Invest the rest so we could live off of it / fund college for our future children / retire early / travel often
  6. Charitable giving in some (and probably many) form or fashion

Anyone got $200 million they want to give me? Please?

Hop on over to Kelsey's to play, too!
